TopChop Zero is a natural product made from chopped British oat straw with added apple flavour and mint to enhance palatability. It does not contain added molasses or other types of sugar coating.
This chaff is designed for overweight horses and ponies that require an exceptionally low-calorie source of mature forage. TopChop Zero (DE 4MJ/kg) is much lower in nutritional value than even late-cut meadow hay (DE 7-8 MJ/kg) and can be considered an ‘empty calorie’ fibre source to extend forage and reduce overall nutritional intake; horses and ponies can pick away steadily at TopChop Zero when they no longer have access to grass, hay or haylage. Benefiting the horse’s digestive system, TopChop Zero will ensure a supply of fibre to the microflora in their hindgut during periods when otherwise there would be no forage supply e.g. from late evening until morning stables
Following development and research by the TopSpec Equine Research Centre, the formula for TopChop Zero has been approved by professional nutritionists, recommending the feed for the majority of horses with good teeth.
TopChop Zero is ideal for overweight horses and ponies, horses and ponies who must eat haylage that is too ‘rich’ for them ( often resulting in loose droppings), and overweight horses and ponies prone to laminitis.
Whilst TopChop Zero is excellent as a partial hay or haylage replacer, it can also be used as a mixer chop for overweight horses and ponies that are greedy.
